CFC Awards

Cessna Aircraft Company has a well-established history of supporting educational and youth incentives. In 1993-94, Metro Midtown was chosen as a site to pilot a new program to help students succeed in school. Cessna’s goals for the program are to:
  • Encourage high school graduation and post-graduate education
  • Encourage each student to improve their academic skills and social/community responsibility
  • Create an employable individual by promoting work ethic/skills and effective social skills
  • This incentive program is not mandatory, it is a student voluntary program.

Students who participate are asked to sign a contract each semester to:

  • Set goals for grades and attain them
  • Attend school regularly
  • Complete 10 hours of community service
  • Pledge a drug-free lifestyle
  • Participate in career counseling

The reward for setting and meeting these goals are:

  • A Cessna Flying Colors jacket for first time awardees
  • Students earn $25 for each "C" grade, $35 for each "B" grade, & $50 for each "A"
  • A $100 bonus is given to each student who projects and earns a 3.0 or above grade point average.

Program Information

  • Cessna has paid out over $68,587.00 in cash incentives, an average of $8,941.00 per year.
  • Cessna Flying Color students have totaled 3,986.5 community service hours since the fall of 1993.

Cessna also provides volunteer tutors to Metro Midtown. These tutors are Cessna employees who donate their time and talent each week to work individually with many Metro Midtown students. Tutors volunteer over 200 hours each semester. These are contact hours in the classroom. Tutors are often matched to an individual student, which often results in them developing special friendships and giving extra hours of mentoring outside of class. Metro Midtown is indeed grateful for all the Cessna Company does for our school.
